Jason Norton CFP®, ChSNC® – Founder And Certified Financial Planner®
,Jason, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional and the founder of Ability Wealth Group. A consumer economics major from Alpharetta, Georgia, Jason graduated from UGA. Following his graduation, he made the not so difficult decision to stay in Athens, GA where he and his family continue to live today.
In the years following graduation, Jason obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification to help families better plan for their future.
In addition to his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, Jason maintains the Chartered Special Needs Consultant® designation. Christy and Jason’s son Drew, who is a fun, loving, opinionated and mess-making little boy, is a fighter of a rare disease. This has led Jason and Christy to be advocates in all aspects of Drew’s life. If you ask Jason why he chose to help others in the special needs community, “sometimes your job finds you”.
Jason is actively involved in the Athens community as past president of Rotary (2009-2010) and former president of L.E.A.D. Athens. Jason currently sits on the development committee of Extra Special People Inc. and as a board member for Georgia Options; a charitable organization that provides an opportunity for independent living for individuals with special needs.
Jason is passionate about his community and the support that it brings other families who have loved ones with special needs.
John Sims – Client Relationship Manager
John is an Athens native who joined Ability Wealth Group in January 2024 as an Administrative Associate. Following his graduation from the University of Georgia in May 2024, John transitioned into a full-time Client Relationship Manager role. In this role, he works closely with families to support them through the Ability Wealth Group SustainAbility Planning process.
John’s passion for financial planning is deeply personal. Growing up with a sibling with Trisomy 9 Syndrome shaped his desire to serve families with loved ones who have special needs and inspired his commitment to planning for life unscripted.
John earned his bachelor’s degree in Financial Planning from the University of Georgia. During his time at UGA, he was actively involved in several financial planning organizations, including serving as a volunteer income tax preparer with VITA and volunteering with the UGA ASPIRE Clinic, where he provided financial counseling to residents throughout the Athens community.
Laura Edwards – Financial Planning Assistant
Laura grew up in Savannah, Georgia, and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance with a minor in Health Policy and Management from the University of Georgia in December 2024. She later completed her Master of Science in Financial Planning at UGA in December 2025.
Laura began working with Ability Wealth Group in April 2025 while completing her graduate studies. After earning her master’s degree, she stepped into a full-time role as a Financial Planning Assistant, supporting the firm’s planning efforts and contributing to ongoing client relationships. Her work focuses on assisting with plan preparation, coordination, and follow-through to ensure clients receive thoughtful, comprehensive guidance. She also plays a role in advancing the firm’s presence by educating parents/caregivers and professionals alike about the need for AWG’s SustainAbility Planning process.
Her interest in special needs planning has been shaped by personal experience, as her cousin with Down syndrome inspired her to serve families navigating complex, personal planning needs. This perspective reinforces her commitment to helping families prepare for both the future they envision and the challenges that may arise along the way.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling whenever possible.
